InterCollegiate Athletic Consulting

Consultants for university and college athletics, club sports and recreation programs

It has now been over ten years since ICAC brought together a group of experienced higher education consultants: Cynthia Linhart, Ph.D, Harry Marmion, J.D., Ph.D. who passed away in 2008, Robert Esposito, AIA, Carol Eddy, M.A, John Yeager Ed.D, and Richard Laskowski, Ed.D. These professionals combined with the financial and management expertise of Andrew Fellingham, MBA, MA have allowed ICAC to put together a single package that understands the interaction of the academic mission of a university, its athletic efforts and the significant financial obligations involved. Our group has direct, applicable experience in connecting the academic and athletic enterprises and the synergetic effects these have on the institutions’ wider community.

Building on our group’s past work at Georgia Tech, the University of Louisville and Virginia Tech, ICAC’s projects have included the:

  • assessment of the role of intercollegiate athletics for the University of Scranton

  • functionality of all Williams College’s athletic facilities (indoor and fields)

  • complete Title VII review for Middlebury College

  • planning a new athletic complex at Coppin State University from Master Plan stage to justification to the State system for the funding to planning and programming a 175,000 square foot, 5,000 seat PE center with a 400-meter track, soccer field, 8 tennis courts and a softball field

  • executive searches and transition management plans

  • transition of the Franciscan University of Steubenville from a club sports program to full membership in the NCAA D-III

  • creation of a long term strategy for the Skyline Conference with a new constitution and by-laws

  • membership planning for the East Coast Conference and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference

  •
  • total ICA and Recreation review for Fairfield University

  • NCAA Divisional moves at the University of South Dakota, North Carolina Central University and Saint Anselm College

In the past two years, ICAC has brought aboard:

Martin Maguire, former Director of Investigations for Major League Baseball

Howard Bell, former Vice President for Administrative Services and Information Technologies at the University of Cincinnati

James Gibson, Athletic Business Manager at the University of Montana

Kenneth Zirkle, former President of the University of Findlay, Becker College and Post University

to assist our clients in the constantly changing landscape of athletics and recreation on their campuses.

ICAC can provide a service that understands the interconnection of academics and athletics and the role each plays in an institution’s mission. Knowing this allows ICAC to assist universities and colleges in negotiating the intricacies of the various NCAA divisions, the pressures for success placed on the individual athletic department from its multi-faceted constituencies, the governance structure of the university, any Federal or State laws that affect the system, and finally the realities of managing an educational enterprise in the 21st century.

We firmly believe that by enhancing the student-athlete experience an institution creates a greater long-term bond between itself and its graduates.
